I’ve Got Something To Say

Life seems to have gotten pretty crazy lately.  It just seems like there’s no time to get anything done.  I always thought, that technology was supposed to make our lives better by this point.  At least it did for the Jetsons and Captain Kirk.  But, I’m not so sure that the simple life in a tech world has been realized yet.  I mean, sure it seems like we have tons of technology, and it just keeps growing.  More gadgets, that do more and more stuff, that we never imagined possible just a few years ago.  No, I’m not talking about the iPad.  I’m still not sure about that thing yet.  I really wouldn’t be surprised if it died a quick death, but then again I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes mildly successful.  I would however, be surprised if this version of it comes anywhere near the success of the iPhone.  But, that’s a story for another day.

Let’s get back on track here.  I was talking about how technology doesn’t really seem to have made our lives all the easier.  At least not mine.  Well, perhaps I’m being a little pessimistic here, as I’m sure technology has made things a little bit better.  Now that my kids all have iPod Touches, there doesn’t seem to be nearly as much squabbling for the laptop or desktop computer for that matter.  It is a pretty cool little device, I must admit.  As a side note, I must comment that my wife hates it when I take one into the bathroom.  It makes perfect sense to me, as I can do even more reading in there than before.  Being able to read the New York times on the can, when I live no where near New York is kinda cool isn’t it?  I thought so. Apparently she disagrees.  Hmmm?

Although, one thing I have kinda gotten over, is all those apps.  I mean, who cares if there are 5 trillion new apps available every day to download on iTunes, when I’m already bored with the ones I have.  A lot of them are really just gimmicky, and of nothing but questionably trivial use.  It reminds me a bit of the internet boom, just before everything went bust.  Everyone and their dog was putting up a website (App), just because they could.  Well, let me just say that for the record, “Just because it’s on iTunes, doesn’t make it a good idea”.  Even if it was vetted by the watch dogs at Apple.

So, let’s just say that technology has made things better, but George Jetson still had it better than I.  I’m still waiting for the robotic maid and dogs that do all the hard work around the house.   Even if they do turn into Cyclons a few thousand years from now, that’s OK.  It’ll be someone else’s problem by then.
