For The Love Of Timber Conservatories.

There are those homeowners out there that do not like timber conservatories for the reason that they feel these structures are not environmentally friendly.  Their thinking is that any structure that uses a lot of timber is depleting the stocks of timber in the world and denuding our planet of trees.

In fact the opposite is true.  If the timber for any building is sourced properly by conscientious manufacturers, then it is actually helpful to the planet for us to purchase building made from this timber.

In the past much timber came from the depletion of rain forests and from the enormous tracts of forests in central Europe.  However the system of managed forest has gradually taken hold and now for any timber that is cut and removed from mature forests, new saplings are planted and managed so that they grow up to replace the trees that have been removed.

These new forests are much more active at growing, producing oxygen and using up carbon dioxide than the older mature forests were, so by purchasing timber for these recognized sources you are actually helping the planet.

Another fact to recognize is that timber is a natural product and has to undergo much less of a process in order to be turned into a usable construction material.  Compare this to uPVC and aluminum which are two other products popular in the construction of conservatories. Both of these products are harder to product and contribute more to harmful emissions.

One of the downsides to having timber conservatories is that they will probably need more attention than either aluminum or uPVC conservatories. This is because timber needs to be oiled or painted every few years in order to keep is weather resistant.  The frequency of the maintenance required will depend on the natural oil present in the type of timber used and also the type of weather that can be expected in the location where the conservatories are built.
