Somebody’s Got To Clean Up The Mess

Halloween Trend Spotting

This early, costume makers are churning out tons of new designs for Halloween costumes of every size, quality, material, and glitter. Last year’s costumes were considered success stories. Most designers only had to look at what’s on TV or what’s showing in theaters to get inspiration for their creations.

Last year, we saw witches, horned imps with red faces, vampires, werewolves (with perfect abs), and TV show characters who walk up and down our streets. They rang doors and were showered with candies. Old monarchs, heroes of forgotten battles, pirates, and more vampires were also present in office parties that honored the dead. They drank punch and also probably bobbed for apples.

So the question now is: What Halloween costumes 2011 trends will we see? We really can’t tell until the stocks hit the shelves by the end of September, but we do have some idea. Costumes with movie tie-ins will still be in vogue, especially with the plethora of exciting movies scheduled to hit the theaters this year.
Also, Disney characters will still have a solid following (especially the Princesses), so we can expect to have sightings of Snow White, Aurora, Cinderella, and Jasmine on the dusk of October 31st. We will have the witches, too (courtesy of the Harry Potter movies), for what would Halloween be without the witches?

I Love The Outdoors, But In Moderation

Living in a northern climate, can really help one develop an appreciation for getting outdoors.  We spend so many of the months of the year indoors, that it makes sense that we make the most of the nice weather when it comes.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t think I would enjoy living anywhere that had the same hot season all year long.  I like the change of season, and really do enjoy our spring and fall months.  I’d really like it, if winter was about half as long.  That’s something, I may look into as I get a bit older and consider wintering in other parts of the country.  Being outdoors, or the lack of it can really affect ones disposition I find.

I do believe that a lack of sun and fresh air, can bring about certain feelings of depression and melancholy.  Some people resort to several measures to help with this.  Some say that extra doses of vitamin “D” can help out.  Others spend some of their winter time in a tanning bed.  Kind of a substitute for the natural suns rays.  You do have to be careful, with how much time you spend there though.  There have been reports of tanning addiction.  Me personally, I like to just get out of town, and head somewhere warmer for the summer.  There’s no substitute for me in getting some real outdoors time.
